I still do not understand - can I safely plug in the car when the SOC is above 75% (as ARV writes) without risking battery life or other problems?

Yup. As long as you dont do it every time, over extended periods of time. I do it often, because a trip in to my school usualy only uses 15-20%. But i try to charge it down to at least 70% or below a couple of times in the week.

Can you point me to the source of this information? Where did you read or hear that? Or have you noticed any of these negative effects (what are they?) yourself?

I am sorry if I sound too inquisitive - I have burned a cash and time on advice on the forum and want to be sure before I take a plunge in to this.

Oh this is nothing but experience, I am afraid. But ARV over here is a experienced think driver(both piv3 and piv4) and he was the first one to give me the suggestion. Røhne & Selmer also somewhat hinted to this kind of use. Atleast it has worked for me for 53.000km :)
Have you seen the charging curve in the Think Battery manual? It shows that the charging changes at 80%.
I understand that you are skeptical to info given on forums, so this is only one more piece of information that you may or may not want to consider if you have not seen it before.

Ok, guys - I understand that all you mean well, but please read my posts. My question was about the following statement:

Nei, men ved 75% balanserer den cellene. Kjører du mye 80-100% uten å balansere får du etterhvert stor forskjell mellom kjemisk og teoretisk SOC.

There is nothing in the manual about such behavior and no one has brought up any evidence or even explanation on why and how would balancing in a zebra pack happen.
So again - please read the quote above and come up with logical (electrical or chemical) explanation on how would such balancing happen. "Hear-say" does not count.

By my knowledge, the explanation given by hma is how it works.
More information about the Zebra battery technology can be found in this article http://www.gunnarmusan.de/Material/Advances%20in%20ZEBRA%20Batteries.pdf
It doesn´t tell about the open circuit voltage test at 80% SOC, but could be good reading anyway for those interested in the technology!
