Så no kjører...

Jeg finner dette en merkelig historie. Hvis ingen 220 volt til kontakten da batteriet ikke er tomt?

Hva er risikoen en helt tom Li-on batteri?
Er det fare for cellene?

Takk for å tenke sammen!
med hilsen
Walter

I agree, it's an odd story. My guess is that the car was driven to 0% energy the day before. If the car was charging and the 220V disappeared, that should not drain the battery.

I would guess that the BMS protects the lithium battery from too deep (and harmful) discharge. I would ask for a printout of the battery data while SOC is 0% and check that no cell was below minimum voltage.

Google translate:

Ah, yes. With some help from Google...
I am sorry I don't speak Norwegian. I hope my English is a bit better to read.

This morning I went to see a Think from 2010. It had done 3,000 km.
I had a test drive and everything worked fine. The 4 Kw heater worked perfect. 20 km's out of 20%.

I visited this car dealer a week ago. I didn't announce my visit so the Think wasn't ready for a test drive.
The car was in the workshop with empty batteries. The Li-on pack was down to 0%. And the 12 volt battery was empty as well.

The dealer told me it was because the night before, the Think was connected to a 220 volt outlet that was cut off after closing time.
This caused the batteries to run empty completely. The car dealer said the Think had delivered electricity back to the mains!
How can it do so when it is cut off from the 220 net?

I think this is a strange story. If there's no 220 volts at the schuko plug how can the battery pack run empty?

Now I was wondering; what's the risk of an empty Li-on battery?
Get the cell's damaged if they go under a certain voltage?

Thank you for reading my post,
Best regards,
Walter

Thank you Tom Roy for your quick reply!  Yes, I finally joined elbilforum ;-)

I hope the BMS did protect the battery pack but I only know for sure if this is tested at SOC 0%
What is the minimum voltage per cell at 0% ?

The Think is for sale at a normal Mazda dealer. I hope they have a Bosch KTS 550 with the right software.
The diagnose socket is near the fuse box at the passenger side? I forgot to check it, this morning.

I will ask the Mazda dealer to make a print out. I hope they want to help me with that diagnose.

Thank you!

Walter

Well, I don't know what is logged in the new A306 Th!nk BMS. May be (and hopefully) the BMS loggs and remembers minimum cell voltage ever, among other things.

Even if the energy meter reads 0% it does not mean the the battery is 0 volts, or even below minimum allowed.

Are you 100% sure that this Th!nk is fitted with lithium battery? There should be a label on the inside of the charge lid. If Zebra battery that could explain the the battery is being discharged. The Zebra use it's own energy to keep itself at ~300 degrees C when not in use.

Generally the minimum allowed cell voltage for a LiIon cell is 2,5 V. Sanyo's data says 2,7 V minimum. EnerDel could have a different limit.

The label on the inside of the charge lid says: Li-Ion.
I was just wondering what caused both to run down completely overnight.

Maybe the 12 volt battery is in a poor state, causing faulty information to the PCU?

Yes, that's one very good educated guess. Why didn't I think of that?

If you are interested in this car, just ask them to charge it up for you.

I don't know how it ended up with a discharged traction/12v battery, just ask them to fix it for you and then take it for a 100km testdrive, charge it up and
take it for another testdrive to make shure everythink(!) is ok.

I recently bought 3 Think City with Lithium batteries from Holland, and have battery fault similar to what you describe on one of them.

Before purchase we had the seller drive the car about 20 km and it did this on about 20% capacity.

On collection the 12V battery had gone flat, and the car did not drive.

12V battery recovered somewhat after some reconditioning, but was changed for a new one.

Tests later showed car had only 50 km range, and dropping for every cycle. One cell shows reduced voltage compared to the rest.

As it stands now, the car is basically worthless as I am not getting it approved in Norway due to some documentation showing wrong year of approval, and with one bad cell, and no spare parts its basically only worth the value of its PCU and body panels.

My advice is to get a print of battery voltages and check that all are the same at say 30-50% capasity, and take the car for a 100-120 km drive before parting with any money.
