Hi guys

Today I received access to charge my kia at borettslag garage .

Problem is they say I must use something to read how much energy I'm using so I can pay for it.

I can not find any thing on Norwegian shops , biltema or classohslon etc.

Also I'm thinking if this reader will not effects charging

This type of plugin power meters is not recommended for permanent usage. There would be two schuko plugs here, with risk of overheating.
Make sure the box with control electronics on your charge cable does not provide any weight on the schuko plug. Make sure the plug is inserted with no weight forcing it downwards.
And check the plug if – if becomes hot, reduce the charge current – or stop charging.

The plugin power meter would be possible to use for a limited time, to find a fixes amount to pay for the electricity used. By experience thy are not weary accurate, and if the backup battery becomes empty thy would reset all values. It is also possible to manually reset them.

I charge my EV in a borettslag – pays 200 NOK / month for the electricity. This is easy to manage.

If you need an accurate and permanent meter the only recommended option would be a meter that is permanent mounted. Either in the fuse box, or dedicated box in your garage.

Please note, this type of equipment need to be installed by an electrician company. Do not buy the above type from Biltema before you have an agreement with a company to install it. Some companies only install equipment they provide themselves.

This is just temporary solution to check how much I need to pay them for electricity.

Most important for me was if this is safe , to use this kind of reader :)

Thanks for answer any way :)

no problem to use the cheap biltema meter for some time to check usage.

I use this meter when charging at friends etc in holidays etc to check usage and pay them a nice "thank you for charging" fee :)

For a temporary solution it would be posssible. Make sure there is no heat in the plug. This would also be true when doing normal charging without the meter - check the plug for heat.

I would recommend check the plugin power meter accuracy. This is easy with when you know the current the car is using for charge. This is normally a bit less than 10A. I have tested several power meters. Some differs more than 50%.
