Hi all,

in my experience, ZEBRA-Monitor version 2.6.x requires Peak-CAN drivers version 2.x (that is, ca. 2004 .. 2005). I have been told that the recent version 3 drivers have a different API and are not downward compatible. The available PCAN version 2 drivers (see posting by stromskap378V) are 32 bit and do not install on 64 bit systems (at least not on my Win 7 computer).
This configuration did work for me: Windows XP (SP3), "old" Peak-CAN 32 bit drivers as above, ZEBRA-Monitor Versions 2.6.0, 2.6.2.. And you should always use the same USB port :-) .
Since Windows XP is obsoleted, someone might try Windows 7 as 32 bit installation with the above setup.

Enerdell i gen1 funker som bare det også i gen0 men laderen i gen0 er ikke bra og bør ikke brukes med li. Gen2 lader bør i så fall benyttes i gen0 eksternt med kjølekappe fra eks. volvo.

Kan du beskrive forskellen mellem Gen0 og Gen1 i forhold til Litium-Batterier lidt nærmere?
Jeg ved at indgangsfilteren blev modificeret (Gen0 design plejede at dø af "severe arcing") og at ladeeffekten er højere ved Gen1. Er der mere?

Det er lidt off-topic, men jeg husker at vi opplevede med en anden bil, at BMIet frakoblede batteriene pga. for høj temperatur. Det var en lastbil som var udstyret med 2 stykker ZEBRA-Batterier af typen Z5. Firmware im BMI var fra 2002 og på en varm sommerdag måtte vi standse 2 gange fordi batteritemperaturen blev højere end 330 grader. Men efter en kort kølepause kunne vi fortsætte turen.
ZEBRAmonitor kan vise iøvrigt de højeste registrerede temperatursensorværdier  i "life data".

My virus scanner flagged the zipped comtool v2.11 distribution files as infected with a trojan, so one should steer clear of this version. But version 3.08 of the same tool is also included.
Apart from that, in my opinion a comprehensive set of all S/W imaginable for newer Thinks.

btw.: the ZebraMonitor V2.7.6 exe file can be inserted (just copied) seamlessly into an existing older V.2.6 installation.

As Orla may have guessed, I'd love to have my car converted to Lithium, too, and on the road again. Too bad that we mostly start reverse engineering only when some parts are definitely broken. Analysing a running system would have been a nice idea. :-]

On the technical level, conversion from ZEBRA to Lithium is probably relatively easy. The charger section in the PCU seems to be of the dumb kind which relies on the BMI for control of the charge process. At least there is a lot of traffic on the CAN bus to support this assumption. However, the Enerdel pack comes with 400 VDC rated voltage, while the ZEBRA pack has only 371 VDC. So, chances are, that at least Gen0 and Gen1 PCUs may not be able to reach the required End-of-Charge voltage for the Enerdel pack. Maybe there is somebody in the know around to enlighten us?

Regarding certification issues, I'd rather expect, that a change from one manufacturer certified configuration (i.e. original ZEBRA pack with adapted charger) to another manufacturer certified configuration (_original_ Enerdel pack with adapted charger) should be possible within the type certificate.

Inserting a new battery with a new or adapted BMI may or may not void the type certification and possibly require application for a prototype certifcation. I've been through this back in the 90s - when EMI compliance was still unheard of - and would recommend to check back with the authorities or their certification delegation holders (here in Germany usually at TÜV or DEKRA) before starting any major work. Certification is of course tedious stuff, but no-one likes to literally sit on a potentially unsafe battery. 

At those who advocate the use of "Trilling" or Leaf spare batteries: how much do these match the Th!nk parameters (voltage, capacity, integrated BMI, Weight, Dimensions)?

I will be happy to share any information I am able to scrounge from my car. But having a Gen0 ZEBRA config, I am not overly optimistic to be able to apply much of it. Maybe somebody converts his working order Gen2 ZEBRA to Lithium and is willing to sell the old battery (hardly disinterested :-)=) )?

Hej,

"Thermal Isolation Error" is triggered, when the battery loses temperature too fast (even with heater on). Error type is "notice", but can only be cleared by ZEBRA-monitor level 1 access. As Baudemo has shown recently in this forum, does the charge process also cool down the battery and is therefore interrupted several times for reheating. Maybe this happens now more (too) often.
The 3rd error message indicates that end of charge has not been detected for over 36h of charge time.

Right, you've got a point there.
Just found both error codes (thermal iso and internal iso) in my copy of the MES-DEA error code list (V3)
Obviously all the batteries dying from internal iso fault lately made me expect yet another one. :-/

Hej,

det er sandsynlig at BMI-reset startede opvarming. Hvis BMI synes at der er intern isolationsfejl, så slukker den  for opvarming og blokerer varmekredsløb i batterien. Ved hjælp av f.eks. ZEBRA-Monitor S/W kan denne fejlmelding resettes og derefter begynder opvarming forfra. Nu må man bare vente indtil batteritemperaturen nærmer sig 240 grader, og der måler BMI igen isolationsmodstanden i batterien. Hvis isolationsfejlen findes ikke mere, begynder batterien at lade.   
Hvad slags BMI reset lavede du iøvrigt?

Hej,

min bil står nu med ikke brugsdygtig batteri (har 2008 Think med ZEBRA).
Jeg vil derfor gerne stille et par spørgsmål til alle som har oplevet det samme for nylig:
- hvor gammel er batteriet / hvor mange km kørte bilen med det?
- var det iso-fejl eller noget andet? 
- hvad gjorde I så (reparation / batteribytte / skift til lithium / andet)?

På forhand tak for svar!

I'm afraid I could add at least 2 Instances here in Germany recently to the heap of dead Zebras, including the one in my 2008 Think. I wonder how many Think owners would be prepared to purchase a new or refurbished Zebra battery.

Please bear in mind that you have also to heat up the battery in order to reliably check the status and try to clear any stored failure message. The BMI operates also with 12V only, and Zebramonitor will allow to clear the message "internal isolation fault". But the battery temperature has to reach approx. 240 degrees before the internal isolation status is actually checked again. With a permanently damaged battery, the "internal iso fault" message will then show up again and heating will be switched off.

Seen this on other cars too. I have installed a "similar in form, fit and function" replacement offered by the italian firm Vibrostop (vibrostop.it, see attached datasheet) in my 2008 Think. Net price for PGM 44-60 was EUR 9,60 apiece then, plus VAT, freight ... .

Var igår på prøvetur og opplevede det samme her (Zebra batteri, fulladet). Efter bilen er startet igen, lyser "power limit" og toppfart er begrenset. Starter bilen efter en halv times pause og feilmelding er væk, men på neste prøvetur sker det samme igen. Kan det være fugt i bilen?

Er der noen som kan sende mig en kopi af Certificate of Conformity til en 2008 Think City?
Skal bevise at det er lovlig at køre bilen med de originale 6x14 aluminiumfelg...  ::)
