Model S / Sv: Swiss Model S travels to Norway
onsdag 15. januar 2014, klokken 16:13
One should think, that my great vacation in Norway is over and that I surely should be already planing my next trip to Norway with my Model S next summer.

But there's a little not so plesant thing, that still keeps me occupied with my trip last August.

A few weeks after I came home, I received a bill from an organisation called EPC who handles Norwegian road toll administration for foreigners.

They sent me a bill for my road use in Norway, even though I had a AutoPass transponder in my car which was registered as a elbil .

On the bill was mentioned, that my car is a Tesla and so it should be obvious, that I own a electric car.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem paying the bill, but I thougt, that I shoud interveine for the sake of others, after me. So I sent the following request:

I was told, that electric cars don't have to pay road tolls in Norway. Because my Tesla Model S is an electric car, I don't think that I have to pay the toll bill. I also had a AutoPass transceiver in my car and filled out the form, where I marked my car as electric.

After waiting for a pretty long time, I recently received the following answer:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your communication regarding the above case.

On behalf of the relevant Issuing Organisation, we regret to inform you that your representation for the above case has been rejected. The reason for the rejection is that you have not provided sufficient evidence. Please provide evidence showing that your vehicle is an electric vehicle in order to close your case.

Please ensure that payment is made in order to avoid further charges being added. Payment can be made as per the instructions on the notice. Please note that any further communication which does not contain new pertinent information or evidence will not be entertained or replied to. Please note that the due date has been extended for a further 28 days.

Yours faithfully,

EPC Customer Services

I have now replied with the follwing (but didn't get an answer):

Thanks for your email.

On the bill, you sent me originally was mentioned, that my car is a Tesla. As it is easy to check, that Tesla only manufactures electric vehicles, I can't imagine, what more of a proof you need. Could you please tell me what exactly I should provide you with?

Does anybody of you have suggestions, on what I should do next?

Model S / Sv: Swiss Model S travels to Norway

Thanks again to everybody on this forum to help us getting the most out of our vacation to Norway. As you can see on the map, we followed the advice of some and traveled a bit up the West coast before crossing the mountains on our way back to Oslo.

After we tried the Aurland Supercharger yesterday, we will get our final "Supercharger boost" Today in Gol before heading back to Oslo.

The Model S did very well on the whole trip and it has how over 3000km on the odo.

Charging wasn't a problem as we could either use the Superchargers or draw 16A-1P from the hotels we stayed or from one of the public charging stations, we've got the key for (thanks for that tip again).

During our stay north of Bergen, charging at 16A-1P was a bit painful, because we arrived with a depleted battery and had to start with a range charge again, which took about 30 hours of charging.

Once we had to plug in the Model S at the back of a shopping center and charge from a 3P+N 32A socket, that was there. Otherwise, we hadn't been able to complete the trip to our hotel.

One (other) hotel offered us the same plug for charging, which was great and we could use the complete 22kW to charge up very quickly.

I also have to say, that I never once used the Tesla UMC. Either I used the smaller and handier 16A-1P EVSE that came with my Smart ED or the crOhm box. Twice I had to use the crOhm box for charging from a Schuko-Plug at 16A-1P because, the Smart EVSE refused the power from (both) the public charging stations we tried.

We're now very sad, we have to leave Norway tomorrow, which is a beautiful country and remembered us in some part very much of our own home in Switzerland. Most impressing for us where the seemingly endless coastline, the sea, the waterfalls and the fjords we've seen. For me best best part where the nice roads, which can be very well enjoyed with a Tesla Model S.

So thanks again very much to everybody here helping us to get this great experience.

Actually it's going great! Norway is a beautiful country and so far all people where very friendly and helpful here. Most amazing for us from Switzerland is the view of the sea and the amazing rocks and rivers everywhere.

The Model S is also doing a amazing job in getting us around here. The car is so exiting and it's breathtaking performance goes down very well with the nice and winding roads we visited here.

As you can see on the map, we're still in the South (near the Lyngdal Superchargers) and we will stay here for one more night to rest before heading North.

We're not so sure though how fast and into which direction exactly we should proceed. Charging opportunities seam to thin out a bit and good planing is required. Has anyone here some suggestions on where to stay an where to go next?

Thanks,

Sven

Thank you all very much for your helpful and inspiring answers to my post.

Of course it would be great if the SCs have already started operating, when I arrive in Norway next Monday, but thanks to the very helpful advice, I should be able to get the most out of my vacation anyway.

Because I've just taken delivery of my Model S, I'm struggling to find time to write back.

I will post pictures of my charging adapters later.

Thanks

Sven

I'm sorry for posting in English, but because I live in Switzerland, that's the best I can do.

Today I'll take delivery of my Tesla Model S Sig Perf+ VIN 14291 in Switzerland.

To spent some time with my new car and because I always wanted to visit beautiful Norway, I decided to make a roadtrip to your Country. I will arrive next Monday on the ferry from Kiel to Oslo and I have to leave Norway on Sept 5th.

Why I'm posting this here, is because I'm hoping for some tips on where to charge my Model S in Norway, and which scenic roads are suited for a roadtrip to the nicest spots in Norway.

Thank you very much,

Sven
